Geological Information Management

Our geological information management services recognize the importance of high quality digital data to the explorationist and how access to these data reduces project cycle time and saves valuable interpretation time.

We specialise in converting legacy data to digital data sets. This may include digitising biostratigraphy, geochemistry and porosity/permeability data, compiling formation top databases, compiling regional tests and show information and digitising core logs.

Our specialist skillsets allow us to QC the available data and our data management experience allow us to accurately capture the information.

Seismic Project Build

Often the hardest part of a seismic interpretation project is building the project database, particularly in areas with a long exploration history.

Let us take the headache out of the project build for you. We can digitise legacy hard copy seismic sections and associated navigation data, check and convert digital navigation data to the project projection system and datum, load seismic lines, well logs, time-depth information, formation tops and biostratigraphy data. If you have existing structure maps we can convert these into seismic grids to assist new interpretation.

If you have quantitative biostratigraphic data we can convert these to time curves to provide correlative markers and understand depositional environment changes.

Spatial Database Management

Spatial databases (GIS) provide a powerful tool for displaying and analyzing geological data. However they are complex and time-consuming to build. Let us take that headache away by preparing these for you. We can prepare these GIS projects incorporating a wide range of data types. These typically include culture information, digital elevation data, surface geology, digitized structure maps, Google Earth and other geo-registered images, seismic navigation data and well locations. Digital geological data sets can also be added.

These projects act as a geological data store that can be expanded as exploration work is carried out.

Exploration Database Management

The large volumes of data generated during petroleum exploration projects and the lack of systematic organization of these databases often poses significant barriers to data access. G&G staff waste a large amounts of valuable interpretation time trying to determine what data they have and how to access this information.

We can provide database management services and software (GIMS) to help you manage this information and reduce data access times.

GIMS is a fully customisable database with a map-based front end that allows rapid data searching, project database building and data export

Core Log Managment

Horizon Geoconsulting and Advanced Logic Technology (ALT) have joined forces to provide a unique core log digitizing service combining Horizon’s geological data management skills and ALT’s WellCAD software and expertise. This service produces high quality standardized digital core logs to client-specified formats, from vintage data sets. It includes setting up a core template and symbol dictionaries, digitizing hard copy or hand-drawn core descriptions and comments. Depending on data availability it may also include importing, or digitising, wireline or core-gamma logs, compiling and importing porosity-permeability and other core analysis data sets, importing image logs, splicing and importing core photos and digitizing dipmeter logs.

The resultant standardized core data sets provide digital information that can be analysed in WellCAD or exported to 3rd Party applications for interpretation. .
